February 27th P-Day in Panama

Hola to all those who read this, lend me your ears!!!!

Alright so this week has passed by incredibly fast, as usual. But seriously, I'm afraid to blink to see if I miss a P-Day, that's how fast the weeks go. But if time flies when your having fun, time SOARS when you're doing missionary work, haha. I'm coining that phrase, but you all have permission to use it if you'd like! Speaking of awesome phrases, here's another one that I heard in an EFY (Especially For Youth) song this week that I have: "The mistakes of the past don't define you, they refine you!" How cool is that? I totally agree, that's what repentance is all about. Just like it says in Alma that when we repent, it is a change of heart, and we no longer desire to do evil against God anymore. That's what true repentance is.

So let me talk about an incredibly fun game I play with my compa Aguilar. There is a little side street alley that is behind our house that we use to go walk to the Lavandería every P-Day like today, with houses on either side. And as normal with las casas de los panameños, every one of them has a loud and vicious dog. No, let me correct that, AT LEAST 1 loud and vicious dog that barks as you walk by, every time. So what I say when we start our venture down the road to Aguilar is "Yo supongo que esta vez que pasamos aquí, van a ser como 4 perros que lo hacen". Then as we walk, I count how many dogs bark at us. But here's the thing, when I actually want them to bark to meet the quota I have set for myself, the don't do it! So frustrating, but it's hilariously fun! I do everything I can to make them bark, sing, whistle, clap, stomp my feet, etc. It probably doesn't sound that fun, but as a missionary, it's quite entertaining.

Also let me talk about a phrase I give to all mothers with obnoxious disobedient children that the mothers here use quite frequently which is :"¡Te voy a pegar!", haha. Which just means like "I'm gonna smack you." It's funny how often I hear that as I walk down the street, mothers screaming at their little children.

Also bug bites, (random side note), if you don't use bug spray every night, you will wake up with about 25 bug bites that make you want to scratch your skin off. And it's always weird places they bite, like your feet and elbows. I have about 10 on my feet right now and they're driving me insane, cuz one night I fell asleep without using it and now I suffer the wrath of the itching. A phrase I use a lot right now "Ay, me pican bastante", haha.

A few weeks ago we had to go to inmigraciónes to make me legal to be in the country. So it was mostly everyone that came in my group, including Clark, and Goodson. It was awesome to see those guys again, I feel like they are my best friends in the mission because we spent every waking moment together for 2 months in cell block MTC, haha. They all seem to be doing well.

Alright, investigator time in the email. Our estudiantes de inglés in the class have now become investigators, because we always only have what I call the "Faithful Four", like "Fantastic Four", but in Spanish, "Fiel Cuatro". With Orlando, edad 14, who wants to be a missionary, golden investigator, or as they say here, "investigador de oro". We got him and his little sister Amy, to come to church with us yesterday.  Not only does he want to be a misionero, he wants to go to the temple because we showed him a picture of the Salt Lake temple too. In Aguilar's words, "animarle", haha. It's so sweet teaching him. He has incredible faith in God and Jesus Christ, and we just need to channel that faith to our church and talk about baptism. But he's certainly ready for church involvement and covenants.

Also Nelly, lady we found contacting, edad 60 something, have taught her like 6 times. She's great too, like an abuela, and was really receptive. I posed the baptism question for her, said she'd pray about it, next time we go to visit her, like the 6th time, she says that she already was baptized, IN OUR CHURCH! Why didn't she tell us like the first time we went there?!?! Haha, crazy old lady! I think her mind is kinda going because she says it was in the old capilla which would've been like 5 years ago, but she says like 2 years ago. So now we're trying to figure out what happened and why she didn't continue going to church after her baptism. Teaching her as a menos activo now. She's a great lady though, funny. We took a picture with her. But there's also her daughter and grandchildren there we're trying to teach too. But since the kids are now attending school, it's gonna be more difficult. School schedules for these kids are weird, since this has been their descanso del verano, cuz they don't have seasons here, only what they call "verando" for like 4 months. Then invierno for the other 8. Dry season and wet season, haha.

I've had lots of close calls, health wise, as far as slipping and what not, twisting my ankle. Last week was so funny, did divisiones with Scrimsher again and we were walking down a hill, and then I just started sliding. Like it was in slow motion, didn't really realize what was happening, then basically did the splits, tore my pants and scraped my knee, haha, like I was doing ballet! I've also stepped on nails and staples, haha, just strewn about the streets. Surprised more people dont get tetanus.

Good week this last week, and this is the last week of the cambio. Not sure if I'll stay here for another cambio or go somewhere else. We´ll find out soon enough.

Two more scriptures for you all in D&C, sección 58:12, which is the answer to the question "Why should I obey this commandment?", haha. You'll understand why, and also sección 68:4 which is really great.

Love you all, have a great week, stay happy, go to church, always renew those covenants you've made. Church is great, I took it for granted so much time. Write me letters :) I'll write you back!
